A Family Bakery Built By Hand
Antonio Veniero immigrated to the United States in 1885 at age 15. What began as a candy shop where customers could enjoy espresso and biscotti became one of New York City's most beloved Italian bakeries.
Veniero's continues to bake with fresh ingredients, without artificial ingredients, and with handmade methods that have defined the bakery for generations. Cookies and biscotti are still handmade and hand-cut, and the baking tradition continues in the original basement bake shop.
As Robert Zerilli has shared, Veniero's success is rooted in its neighborhood history, loyal customers, and commitment to maintaining the bakery's reputation after more than 130 years in New York City.
An East Village Landmark Since 1894
Veniero's Pasticceria & Caffè is an Italian bakery located at 342 East 11th Street, between First Avenue and Second Avenue, in Manhattan's East Village. Founded by Antonio Veniero of Sorrento, the bakery began as a pool emporium and Caffè where he served baked goods to his customers.
Recognition From the Beginning
Demand for Antonio's Italian pastries and cakes grew quickly, earning Veniero's recognition in Rome, Bologna, and at the New York World's Fair. The bakery has been continuously owned and operated by the Veniero family since its founding.
Original Details, Still Intact
The shop still preserves many of its classic details, including hand-stamped metal ceilings, specially designed etched-glass doors, polished wood mirrors, marble floors, stained-glass panels, and original pressed tin. In 1984, the family added the adjoining warm Caffè enclave that guests still know today.
Traditional Italian Confections
Veniero's is known for traditional and regional Italian confections, including handmade butter cookies, biscotti, cannoli, sfogliatelle, tiramisù, New York cheesecake, specialty cakes, and more than 150 desserts. Custom cakes, gourmet cakes, and wedding cakes remain part of the bakery's work for special occasions.
A New York Original On Screen
Veniero's has been featured on Food Network's Road Tasted, ABC's Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Steve Schirripa's Hungry. The bakery has also appeared in scenes from NBC's Law & Order and HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.
